As disciples of Christ, we are called to do a lot of teaching – whether it be in our homes, within our callings, as we minister, and when we share the gospel as member missionaries. That’s a lot of teaching!

A Relief Society teacher once took a survey of all the ladies in her ward, asking each one, “What is the number one feeling that you feel most often?” I’m sure you can probably guess what the #1 answer was – if you guessed overwhelm, you are correct. I bet if you were to ask that same question in other Relief Societies in other Wards, you’d get the same result.

Our lives are so busy with so much demanding our attention that we not only feel overwhelmed but we often times feel guilty when we don’t live up to what we feel is expected of us, especially within the church.

I’m guessing that’s why I’m not the only one excited for the new 2-hour block schedule. The new schedule that will give what every overwhelmed person needs – more time. More time to focus on what matters most. More time to implement the new “home-centered and church supported” plan.

This podcast will hopefully help do away with some of those feelings of overwhelm and guilt that you may be feeling when it comes to teaching the gospel in your home or within the church.

I have taught Primary, Young Women’s, Relief Society, Gospel Doctrine along with being a ward missionary, visiting teacher/ministering sister and have taught my own children the gospel for over 25 years. I have learned first-hand many dos and don’ts, teaching tips, and have gathered numerous gospel resources along the way.

My primary focus for the Teach Me to Walk in the Light podcast is to give you simple yet effective teaching tips and ideas so that you may know how to better teach, persuade, and lead those within your reach to walk in the light of Christ.

And I’m hoping to accomplish this in 3 Main Ways.

1. Personal study. Each week I’ll start out each podcast by sharing with you a short devotional on various gospel topics. I’ll share scripture references and gospel-related resources helping you to further your understanding of different gospel principles.

2.FHE Suggestion. Each week I’ll take what I just shared with you in the short devotional and give you suggestions on how you can share it with your family in FHE. Most times it will cover a principle discussed in the current reading assignment of the new Come Follow Me curriculum.

3.Teaching Tip. Each week I’ll share with you a teaching tip. It’ll be a different teaching tip each week. Each time having to deal with a different type of teaching role – whether it be teaching at home, in your calling, who you minister to and so on.

These 3 Main Things that I’ll be covering each week: Personal Study, FHE Suggestion, and Teaching Tip is to help you be the most effective teacher you can be in all the different teaching roles you are called to do – at home or within the church – where ever you are, being a disciple of Christ and helping those around you follow the Savior.

I’ll end each episode with a #taketimeforfamily idea.

With our lives so busy, the one thing I have learned through the years is that you have to purposely plan time to be with our loved ones. You have to plan for that real quality time. If you don’t then it just doesn’t happen – or at least it doesn’t happen as often as it should. So I’m going to end each episode with an idea for a family activity.

AND I’ll also be throwing in some fun conversation starters too – use them at the dinner table or in the car but I highly suggest using them. They are a great way to get your kids or even your spouse talking and it helps to build relationships.

A new Teach Me to Walk in the Light Podcast will be available every Monday.
