A poem that is taken from a popular hymn. Great to use in any lesson or talk on free agency.

poem on free agency, know this that every soul is free to choose his life and what he'll be, lds lesson, lds talk

       One of my favorite methods of teaching is using poems. The cute, the funny and especially the thought-provoking. I love poems that tell stories or teaches a lesson or better yet, does both.  Have you ever read a poem and thought, “Hey, I know that song!” Or vice versa? It’s not uncommon for poems to become songs or a song to be a poem.

         This poem is actually taken from the Hymn “Know This, That Every Soul is Free” (no. 240). Its message is simple yet gives a great perspective on the meaning of agency.

Free Agency, Know This That Every Soul is Free

                     Know this, that ev’ry soul is free

To choose his life and what he’ll be;

For this eternal truth is giv’n:

That God will force no man to heav’n.

May we ever be mindful of the great power of agency that we each possess and use it for good.
