Watch this humorous video clip of Tim Conway called The Dentist.

In this video, the more Tim Conway tries to pull his patient’s tooth out, the worse things get. The same can happen to each of us – but not in such a funny way – if we choose to disobey God’s commandments. The more we disobey, the worse things will get. It’s the same as kicking against the pricks.

In Acts 9:5 the Lord tells the rebellious Saul, “…It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.”

A prick in those times was a sharp spear used to drive animals such as oxen. Many times the oxen would kick back when pricked, which would cause the spear to sink even further into their flesh. In actuality, the more an ox rebelled, the more it suffered. Thus the words Jesus said to Saul.

Jesus let Saul know his rebellion against God was a losing battle. Saul’s actions were as useless as an ox kicking against the pricks. The same is with each of us. If we rebel against God, we will also find that it is hard to kick against the pricks.

Proverbs 15:10 reads, “Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.” When we disobey God, we become like the rebellious ox, driving the prick in deeper and deeper. In Proverbs 13:15 it reads, “…The way of transgressors is hard.”

How much easier it is to follow God’s path.
