Years ago when I was over Relief Society Activities, the best activity we ever did was our Auction. It was so much fun! The sisters loved it so much that it became a yearly event. My father who was in a different ward had a similar auction for the High Priests and their wives and it was a huge success!

At our Relief Society Auction, the items that were auctioned off were items that the sisters brought. Many were handmade, homemade, or gently used. Some were also store-bought. Some were coupons for acts of service. It was whatever they wanted to bring.

We always had 3-4 tables at the front of the room where the items were placed so everyone could see them. The sisters were invited and encouraged before the auction began to come and look at all the wonderful items that were going to be auctioned off.

Also, as the sisters arrived, they were given a form to fill out. A check-list really. A list of things that they had accomplished recently or in the past. For example: said your prayers, have a college degree or obeyed the speed limit. For each one that pertained to them, they’d check it off. Each one that they checked off was worth so many tickets aka “money.”

*We simply bought a roll of tickets at Wal-mart and referred to the tickets as money because that is what they represented.

A few ladies were assigned to the “Money Table.” When a sister was finished checking off her list, she’d take it to the money table where she would collect her money.

A simple meal or delicious snacks were always served at this activity. While the sisters were filling out their forms, we’d go ahead and start with an opening prayer and let the sisters get their food. As soon as everyone was done with their forms and had their money, the Auction began.

One of the biggest highlights of the night was having a real auctioneer. We were fortunate enough to have a gentleman in our ward who was an auctioneer and was always kind enough to come and do the auction for us. If you don’t know an auctioneer, no worries, you just need someone who is willing to stand up front and hold up each item and award it to the highest bidder.

*The form is 2 pages long. It is easiest if you print the form onto 1 piece of paper front and back.

*If doing the auction for Young Women, Primary, or Elders Quorum you will need to simply type up your own checklist that pertains more towards them and print it out. Use this Relief Society Form as an example.
